Response to Ashley
Wow this is a great post because it's so true!! I had never thought about this till I read your post and thought wow I so here my mom saying that all the time! I think that both men and women should share the kitchen as well, both need to put effort into cooking the dinners. A guy shouldn't expect top have dinner put on the table every day and every time he gets home from work. Yeah the famous excuse will be " I worked all day and I am tired". I think that you are right when people always assume the woman should cook the food in the house and every time the guy wants to cook they make the comment they hope the house does not burn down. This is probably why when you date a girl they always seem to ask do you cook? and what do you cook? I guess women really look for a man to cook, they see it as brownie points :)

Mario,
I read your post and I think how much I have come to realize now about how far women still seem to being equal to a male. I think it is depressing and I enjoyed doing the research for this class. It is funny how we both has similar moments this week. I really can't wait to see everyone's projects! You are right you don't need to be a women to try and get the word out, men have to be there to for support! Many men would not come out and say they would want to be activists for women. I think it's great you say this. I am not ashamed to say I voted for Hilary Clinton in the primaries and was 100% for her. yeah she was a women, but every time she talked I got the chills. I went and saw her at temple university and she was amazing. It was filled with prob 75% women, but still I was not ashamed to show my support for her. Many of my guy friends say she can't run a man's job! It is still in so many people's mind that women will never be up to par with a male. Something needs to change and I am right there with you!

Week 4
My Eureka moment of the week actually was over the weekend while I was doing my final project research. I watched a video I found on Youtube of President Obama and his equal pay legislation into affect. After watching to video and hearing Lilly Ledbetter I really was speechless. I had never realized how much employers discriminated against paying women an equal amount of money. I didn’t realize that not getting paid the same amount limits their pension funds and Social Security. All I could think about was her southern voice and talking about how she was not compensated for her hard work that was equal to her fellow males job. How could America be such a place to do such a thing? I still don’t understand this at all. And then another video I found was a women doing a “man’s job” while working on the new Yankee stadium. Well her words were “I am finally living the American Dream”. Every person should be living the American Dream from the day they are born. To be in your 30’s with kids and now only feeling like your living that dream is what dumb founded me. These two videos showed me how unfair we have been as a community to women. And to think Lilly could not be compensated for the $200,000 she lost in wages. I think this was horrendous and I am glad I worked n this project. I didn’t learn and realize as much now how badly equal pay has been. And to think it still is going on today. It’s only been 40 odd years since an equal pay act has been put into legislation and we, as a society still can’t compensate women equally. Is it just me or do not only women but men need to join forces in the help to stop inequalities between genders. To me I saw a different light and would do anything to get them where they need to be. A lot of men could care less, but sincerely after reading about this topic I had my Eureka moment!!

I heard about that show, but never got to actually see it. The word cougar is used a lot these days. Well I guess I should say I hear it a lot from the people I hang out with. I never understand why people are so concerned with the age of someone you are dating or married too. Age is just a number and many times people portray women with older men because they are gold diggers and a man with an older woman always gives him brownie points with the guys. It’s an interesting topic you bring up here! Exactly it was a reality show and these shows are just on for our entertainment. That is why half the people who go on these shows never last. It’s to make money. I wish I could have seen the show to see how it went. Now I am interested in finding it on TV. Good question is why would they call it a cougar anyway? She’s 40 and the guys are young. It’s a dating show and nothing more.

That is interesting you say this because in the company I work for the costumer service people are all women, the billing people are all women, but all the people with the big office are all men. I have not been in the work force that long, but my experience has been very interesting when it comes to dealing with the corporate world. I think that the reason is many times people in the higher up jobs have been there so long and there mind sets are not up to date. I know it is no excuse because sometimes I wonder how some people have these higher positions when other people know more than they do. Makes no sense. I think this process is a slow process and it still will take time before women are treated 100% equal. I am sorry you feel this way! But isn’t it always interesting how the receptionist is always a female and the secretaries for these men are always female. I wonder why….

I heard about this story to on the radio actually going to work today. It’s a horrible situation. It seems this is all we hear about in the news these days. Priest molesting boys and older guys molesting and raping girls. It gets to a point where we as a society need to draw the line and do something about this. More often now is it publicized then it was back in the day. You make two valid points about Gender Intimidation and Sexual Assault. Both are two major things that go on in many of these cases. An 11-year-old girl cannot do much when a grown man is they’re trying to rape her. She feels powerless and defenseless. I am sure many times when the victim tries to fight back and it can end up worse! I totally agree with you as well. If someone is forced to have any contact with someone else without there consent that is some kind of assault charge. I remember in my one class we talked about this one time and a kid says well a person cannot be force to do anything they don’t want to do, they just use that excuse. I couldn’t believe someone could say such a thing, because many times a person has no choice but to do what the person is telling him or her to do. It gets to a point where this world is getting to be a horrible place and I hear older people say how much is changed. Most people can’t even let their kids outside by themselves anymore!

WEEK 3
My moment of the week has to deal with how not only are women part of domestic violence, but men are also as well. This moment came after reading the chapters. I think that many times it it always portrayed as the men committing the act and not the woman. This is also something men are afraid to admit that a girl beat him up when he is supposed to be the strong masculine man. This is actually an interesting subject on my part, because a friend of mine was abused by his ex girlfriend. She had actually broke his arm and she was this petite woman. We actually joked and laughed when he told us that she did it knowing it was out of rage. WE actually didn't take it seriously. Well come to find out after months after they broke up one night he came and told us all about it. I found it really interesting. He was afraid to admit to anyone he had plenty of domestic disputes with her. I think now why so many men are afraid to admit things like these kinds of things. I think that many times media and people tend to portray the males as coming to act and hardly ever the female. Actually I can't remember ever seeing this happen. I think that men are just to ashamed to tell anyone they are getting beat up by a girl. I seriously think I would do the same thing as him. I think that guys are not as caring and comforting about the issue as the women are when there girls friends are getting beat up. I don't know. I just think it's something that is not something that is out there that much. I think it happens to more men than society thinks.
